How to Block Your Home PC IP Address with AWS WAF and Application Load Balancer

As a user of Amazon Web Services (AWS), you're likely familiar with the importance of securing your web applications from common exploits. Step 1: Review Your Instances

Before getting started, let's take a look at our setup. We have two instances called LinuxWebserver1 and LinuxWebserver3 that are part of an Application Load Balancer. Our goal is to ensure that our home PC IP address cannot access the website.

Step 2: Verify ALB Configuration

To confirm that our ALB is working correctly, let's navigate to the Load Balancer on the left side and copy the long DNS name. Refreshing the page will show us both content of the websites, indicating that our ALB is functioning as expected.

Step 3: Utilize Domain Name from Route 53

Since we have an 'A' record set up in Route 53, we can use the domain name to access our website instead of using our home PC IP address. This makes life easier for us!

Step 4: Block Home PC IP Address with Web ACL

Now it's time to block our home PC IP address so that it cannot access the website. To do this, let's go to WAF and click 'Configure WEB ACL' on the Concepts overview page. Clicking next will allow us to create a new web ACL.

Step 5: Create WebDenyACL

For our web ACL, we'll name it WebDenyACL and configure it to block our home PC IP address. By doing so, we can ensure that our home PC cannot access the website.
